How Do I Define My Spiritual Practice?

I first heard the term “Spiritual Practice” used by Oprah Winfrey on an episode of Super Soul Sunday.  LOVE THAT SHOW.  She would often talk with her guests about their Spiritual Practice.  Some have said it’s being an author. Others have said it’s teaching.  I believe Steve Harvey said it was making people laugh.  From that, I learned that Spiritual Practice is the thing you do that puts your Gift into action.  It’s the thing you love to do.  It’s the thing you do well and in most cases without much effort.  It could be described as your talent or your passion.

For me, my Spiritual Practice has been my Creative Ability.  When I was a child I would create all kinds of crafty things for my mother out of whatever was handy.  In high school, I learned how to sew and got into fashion and art.  I was distressing and drawing on jeans before it was even in style.  I went to fashion design school and worked in the fashion industry for almost 10 years.  I then owned my own custom formal wear business for 4 years.  From there I somehow migrated to digital design and taught myself how to use graphic design software such as Photoshop and Illustrator.  I have been a freelance graphic artist for years, helping people develop their business or organization brand by designing logos and marketing materials.  I then went back to school and obtained a web design degree, which has allowed me to create my own websites, including the one you are on right now.  I share all that to say that I have been exercising my Spiritual Practice in a variety of ways for years.  I have often confused it as my Gift but in reality, my Gift is what has allowed me to be creatively talented.  My Gift of Insight allows me to have the vision to see what the things I have… can become.  It allows me to see the something in what appears to be nothing.  It allows me to see and appreciate that there is a bigger picture.

In 2004 I started a custom bridal and formal wear business called Klairvoyance.  At the time I had no idea what my purpose, gift or spiritual practice was or even how to find it.  I named the business Klairvoyance because I did, however, know that I had the ability to see the big picture.  I felt this word was a good descriptive of that not knowing that I was proclaiming my Gift.  Little did I know what I was searching for was in front of me all along.

Now my Spiritual Practice is expanding into the realm of blogging and sharing my story with others.  I have always been passionate about helping others, and myself, to discover and embrace their greatness and become self-empowered.  I don’t know what the journey looks like from here but I do know it will be in line with my Purpose, Gift, and Spiritual Practice, which is ultimately God’s Purpose.  Who knew I was doing it all along.

PURPOSE = To help others

GIFT = The intangible characteristic you possess and operate in on a high level without effort.

SPIRITUAL PRACTICE = The thing you do that puts your Gift into action.

You use God’s Gift to fuel your Spiritual Practice to fulfill your Purpose of helping others.

What is your unique talent?  Are you putting it to good use?
